    Host of events mark MK’s visit to home constituency Tiruvarur

    A rousing reception was accorded to the DMK chief M Karunanidhi, who had arrived at his native town to thank the voters for his victory in the May 16 Assembly elections and to participate in the function to mark his birthday on Tuesday.

    During the forenoon session, he attended a ‘kaviarangam’ that was organised to felicitate him. A host of programmes has been lined up for the Dravidian patriarch, who won with the biggest margin in the State in the recently concluded polls. This is the second visit of the DMK leader after his triumph in the elections. 

    Karunanidhi, who reached Tiruvarur around 5.30 am by Kamban Express along with former union ministers TR Baalu and Dhayanidhi Maran, former ministers Duraimurgan, EV Velu, and Ponmudi, made a lightning visit to his sister’s house on Sannidhi street in Tiruvarur. 

    Later, he participated a Kaviarangam that was arranged by the party’s literary wing organiser Kavithai Pithan to felicitate him. The kaviarangam also focused on the historic victory of Karunanidhi in from Tiruvarur constituency in the Assembly elections in May and also to mark his birthday. 

    Lyricists P Vijya, Sorko, Jeeva, Ilayakamban and Uma Maheshwari addressed him as Agavai (Age) 93 Tholgappiar. Karunanidhi enjoyed the language skills of all the Tamil scholars who participated in the Kaviarangam and appreciated everyone who addressed the programme. In the evening, Karunanidhi participated in a series of programmes, including a debate led by Dindigul I Leony on Karunanidhi’s political life.  Subsequently, he will address a public meeting around 7 pm and leave for Chennai by Kamban Express.
