About 45 lakh students, over 34,000 schools from 1,400 cities across India and 22 countries participated in the Olympiad during 2015-16. In the Olympiad, Chennai came out with flying colours. S Keerthana of Class 8 from Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) Sr. Sec. School got first rank in National Cyber Olympiad. Raghuram Sundara Rajan of Class 8 from Sri Sankara Sr. Sec. School and Shree Thaarshini S of Class 11 from The PSBB Millenium School secured first rank in International English Olympiad.
These students were awarded a cash prize of 50,000 along with a gold medal. The top 10 principals and top 40 teachers, whose students put up an exceptional performance at international level, were also felicitated with cash awards, mementos and citations. SOF is the world’s biggest organiser of Olympiad exams and has been conducting Olympiads since the past 20 years.
“The Olympiads attempts to develop a spirit of competitiveness among students and to prepare them to face competition beyond their school level. Each participating student’s performance is analysed and a school, city, state and international rank awarded, to enable the student know her/his level of preparedness and readiness to face competition,” said Mahabir Singh, the founder and executive director of SOF.
