According to sources, the university commenced its affiliation process from February and completed it by of May 15 by deputing teams to inspect the various parameters like infrastructure, faculty, laboratory and library in its member colleges.

The university after processing the reports submitted by the inspection committee extended affiliation for existing colleges and also accorded affiliation for new institution, which had approval from the All India Council for Technical Education.

During the inspection, 18 private engineering colleges in the state were found to have deficiencies in some courses, like fewer faculty members, lesser number of books in libraries and need for more equipment in lab.

Sources said that following this, the university reduced the intake by a minimum of 25 per cent (for example if the course had 60 seats, the intake would be reduced by 15 seats).

“Last year also a similar measure was initiated and after the colleges rectified the deficiencies, the number of reduced seats were restored this year. So, if the institutions in which seats were reduced this year set right the shortfall, the university would restore the seats next year,” sources said.
