Corporation to draw up plan for monsoon readiness

The civic body’s preparedness to face the challenges during the monsoon took centre stage at the recent annual review meeting chaired by Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy. Appreciating the performance of corporation officials and workers for their performance during the Chennai floods, the Mayor urged them to take extra precaution this year. 

“All the rain affected areas in the city last year should be identified at the division and zonal levels and steps should be taken to prevent rain water stagnation with special attention to these areas,” he said. Based on the views and suggestions from the officers at the divisional, zonal levels and the field level workers, an action plan will be prepared to address the anticipated new challenges along with the existing ones. 

“This annual department wise review meeting is to speed up ongoing works and identify new challenges, which has to approached differently,” Duraisamy said during the meeting. In the backdrop of rising complaints that illegal sewer connections are running into storm water drains, the Mayor said the officials and workers in the areas are responsible to disconnect such sewer lines. He warned that trade licences of commercial complexes and hotels having such illegal sewer connections will be revoked. 

Pointing out that mosquito breeding has come down due to the control measures, Duraisamy also instructed the officials and workers to take precautionary measures from now to control mosquito breeding during the monsoon.
