Alliance will continue for local body polls: TKS Elangovan
DMK spokesperson and Rajya Sabha nominee TKS Elangovan has justified his writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the seizure of Rs 570 crore before the Tamil Nadu election. He wants to ensure that the DMK-Congress combine sweeps to power in the local body polls in October.

Chennai
What is the reason for your raising the Rs 570-crore issue now?Â
My letter to the PM was to ensure a free, fair and transparent inquiry as we would like to know who is the real owner of the money, whether it belongs to a single person or to the bank. If it is bank money, then there are many loopholes in the version given by them and hence my letter to the PM seeks an impartial inquiry.
What will be DMK’s strategy in the legislative assembly which starts in June?Â
We will wait to see what the state government highlights in the assembly and then respond. It will all depend on how the state government behaves.
Will opposition be a coordinated with the Congress, your alliance partner?
Yes, in most cases, our response will be in coordination with Congress party. But there are some issues on which they will not be very vociferous like the Sri Lankan Tamils’ issue, when we will have to go it alone.
Will the DMK - Congress alliance continue for the Tamil Nadu local body polls in October?Â
Yes, the alliance we stitched up with Congress will continue for the local body polls also.
What will be your strategy for the local body election?Â
Now that the legislative assembly election is over, we plan to start working on local issues at the grassroots level. This will be decided in a month’s time. Our speakers will be instructed to highlight issues so as to ensure victory for DMK.
