All the 134 newly elected AIADMK legislators met at the party headquarters on Lloyds Road in the evening to set the ball rolling. The cadre gave a rousing reception to the party MLAs as they walked inside the party headquarters to attend the meeting, which was chaired by senior leader and the party’s Presidium Chairman E Madhusudhanan.

Showering praise on the party supremo for carrying out the historic victory, senior leaders proposed the name of Jayalalithaa as legislature party leader in her absence.

Hours earlier, Jayalalithaa who was re-elected as MLA from RK Nagar constituency, paid tributes to the statues of Thanthai Periyar, party ideologue C N Annadurai and party founder M G Ramachandran at three different places in the city.

Party cadre thronged the roads to greet the leader, who scripted a historic win on Thursday by becoming the first Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 32 years to be voted back to power.

Party sources told DTNext that they will hand over the letter to Governor K Rosaiah about the unanimous resolution of AIADMK legislators electing Jayalalithaa as the legislature party leader and nominating her for the post of Chief Minister. It is expected that the party will stake claim to form the government on Saturday and following this the Governor will extend his invitation.

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing to conduct the swearing in ceremony on May 23 at the University of Madras Centenary auditorium, the biggest such facility in the city. Senior bureaucrats and police officials have already visited the venue to monitor the preparations.

Police officials are also involved in making arrangements to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the swearing in as thousands of party functionaries and cadre from throughout the state are expected to enter the city.
