In a clear violation of the Election Commission’s norms, some fans even managed to get inside the polling booth. This led to the police’s cordoning of the area near the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).Â
Word got out on Monday that Vijay would be voting at a polling booth in Kapaleeswarar Nagar in Neelankarai. More than a hundred fans turned up to get a glimpse of the star. However, the actor, who was scheduled to arrive at 8 am on May 16, walked in only by 10.45 am, clad in a white shirt and denims.Â
Upon spotting Vijay, the fans went into a frenzy, mobbed the actor and cheered loudly, giving rise to a security concern for the police officials on duty. The police personnel had to restrain the overenthusiastic fans, some of whom had managed to enter the booth, which was a clear violation of EC norms. A police official said they were unable to manage the crowd.Â
In a bid to click selfies with the actor, a tussle broke out and a few people also suffered minor injuries. Eyewitnesses said that the mismanagement was evident as people, who already voted in other areas, gathered in the campus. There were no clear barricades for celebrities or the media.Â
It was reported that a fight had broken out as many fans were trying to click selfies with Vijay. Some people were also injured. The actor, who appeared flustered made a quick exit after casting his vote.
