Every teenager undergoes a dilemma while selecting courses in college. But what if you could experience the job before deciding to enroll in a course? Event Management provides the avenue for students fresh out of high school to learn on the job and gain experience during their summer vacation before deciding on a career path. Many students initially opt to work part-time in event management firms during their free time to make some money on the side, but later embrace the same as a serious career choice. Many have gone on to start their own event management firm.

Akash Lalwani is a second year student studying at Vivekananda College in Chennai and along with a few friends started an event management firm called Triumph Events . They have done various events in the city and are looking forward to organise many more in future. “Initially it was difficult to start a business of our own, but it got easy with a little support and encouragement from our parents,” says Aakash.

Event management requires multitasking and a good amount of networking skills. Students divide their work according to their interest. “Allocating equal time and energy to education and practical aspects has been the key to run the firm efficiently,” adds Aakash.

Another event manager, Mukesh Ravichandran, a third year student co-founded the company Lechelle (the scale) with his batch mates. They undertake video production, motion graphics, and photography. “Our aim is to educate students about the wide options available for them after school,” says Mukesh.

An interesting entrant on the scene is RazzamatazzAcademy, started by Joe Michael while he was studying for his engineering degree.

His company has completed six years since inception. “Event management consists of three crucial tasks—execution, client servicing and business development. Any event manager should master all these to be a successful entrepreneur,” says Joe.
