The girl, aged 6, was walking at Bhararthidasan Street at Kovilpatti, in the night to her home and at that time the man, John Peter Paulraj, pulled the girl’s hand. Sensing danger the girl raised an alarm. Immediately people residing nearby rushed to the spot thinking that John was trying to kidnap the child and rescued her.

They then caught hold of John and inflicted hefty blows. Then police were informed and they too reached the spot. When they inquired the person he gave the mobile number of his family members and when police contacted the family members they informed police that John was mentally unsound and had wandered out of his house in Thoothukudi.

Later, the family members reached Kovilpatti and John was handed over to them. The family was asked to provide proper medical treatment to him.
