Active in the party since 1999, she has not won any elections so far. When she was appointed as the President of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit in August 2014, she assured that the BJP will create history in Tamil Nadu in the 2016 Assembly Elections.
A physician by profession, Tamilisai Soundararajan was born in 1961 at Nagercoil. After completing her studies, she started her career as a gynecologist and obtained special training in Sonology and fetal therapy.
She entered politics as the Medical Wing Secretary and rose to the rank of BJP’s President in the state. The 57-year-old leader is contesting the 2016 Assembly polls from Virugambakkam against AIADMK’s Virugai VN Ravi, Dhanasekaran of the DMK, sitting MLA of the constituency Parthasarathy of DMDK and PMK’s CH Jayarao.
Previously, she lost the 2011 Assembly Election from Velachery constituency, in which she secured 7,048 (4.63%) votes. She also lost the Lok Sabha election from Chennai North constituency during 2009, securing a mere 3.54% of votes.
Villivakkam constituency was reorganised to create Virugambakkam assembly constituency in 2009. During the 2011 election, DMDK, allied with AIADMK and others, fielded candidate Parthasarathy and won with a margin of 14,094 votes against DMK candidate Dhanasekaran. BJP candidate Sridharan managed to secure only 7,525 votes (5.22%).
