    EC leads from front, administers pledge to 1 crore people on ethical voting

    As part for its awareness campaign on ethical voting, the Election Commission today administered a pledge to one crore people across Tamil Nadu that 'they will not get money for vote' in the May 16 Assembly elections

    Leading from the front, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni administered the pledge to the government employees at the State Secretariat along with Additional CEO Kirlosh Kumar and Joint CEOs Ajay Yadav and A Sivagnanam.

    The pledge read ''I, the citizen of India, having faith in democracy, hereby pledge to vote ethically, upholding the democratic traditions of my country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections. I promise to vote in this election honestly, fearlessly and without taking money and without being influenced by any undue inducement. If I come to know of any malpractices, I shall bring it to the notice of electoral authorities for taking up corrective actions''.

    Similar event was held across the State in which election officials administered the pledge to people from various walks of life.

    Political parties, public, state and central government and private company employeesbank employees, Women SHGs, trader bodies, medicos, media personnel, college and ITI students, members of the Lions Club and Rotary Clubs took the pledge. 

    At the Chennai City Police Commissionerate, Chennai Police Commissioner Ashutosh Shukla administered the pledge on ethical voting. 

    Addltional COPs S N Seshasai (North), K Shankar (South), Abhay Kumar singh (Traffic), Su Arunachalam (Headquarters), V Varadharaju (Intelligence), Joint Commissioners of Police, Traffic M T Ganesa Moorthy (North Traffic), K Bhavaneeswari (South-Traffic), S R Senthil Kumar, DC (Headquarters), CCB ACs, Police personnel and ministerial staffs participated and took the pledge.

    At the Anna University campus, the New Delhi-based World Human Rights Commission headed by its Chairman S K Saamy and Secretary Sakthi Prabhavathy administered the pledge to  the students and faculty of the varsity.

    Anna University Dean Dr Narayanasamy, HODs, election officials and Returning Officers participated in the event and took the pledge.

    A report from Vellore said, District Collector and Election Officer Rajendra Ratnoo administered the pledge to more than 5,000 people at an event held at the Vellore Fort grounds.

    People from various walks of life participated in it and took the pledge.
