Promising to implement the law to ensure eight-hour work day in the information technology (IT) industry, the PWF manifesto released on Thursday has assured that appropriate action will be taken to prevent lay-off of IT employees without prior notice. “To protect their rights, labour welfare laws will certainly be implemented,” the manifesto said.

Under the head ‘Safety of Chennai Corporation’, the manifesto pointed out that since encroachments of water bodies like Cooum, Adyar and Buckingham Canal had resulted in a catastrophe in Chennai last November-December, criminal proceedings would be initiated against encroachers.

“All encroachments in these water bodies will be removed and steps will be taken to ensure health and sanitation in the city by moving dumping yards from Kodungaiyur and Perungudi to different locations,” it said.

In a novel effort to take forward planting of saplings into a major movement, the manifesto said that students who have planted saplings and seeking admissions in higher educational institutions and seeking jobs would be given marks.

“If the applicant’s family has planted 25 saplings one mark, for 50 saplings two marks and for more than 100 saplings three marks will be given,” MDMK leader and DMDK-PWF-TMC convener Vaiko said and added that for those who misrepresent facts five marks will be reduced.

As the issue of honour killing has come to the forefront this election, PWF promised a separate legislation to try honour killing cases. “Preference will be given to those in inter-caste marriages and a separate police wing will be created to ensure their safety,” PWF said.
