Collectors to get status report on hoardings
There are hopes of illegal hoardings becoming a thing of the past in Chennai and Kanchipuram districts with the Madras High Court cautioning advertisers, advertising agencies, and hoarding manufacturers to come clean now or face a harsh order.

Chennai
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M M Sundresh, recording that the hoarding advertisers who were served with bailable warrants were present with their counsel, said: “It is agreed that all these parties will appear before the District Collector or his delegate on May 25, 2016, with a list of their claims indicating which of the hoardings they had installed are in existence and which of them are licensed or otherwise so that a proper scrutiny can take place.
The bench also pointed out that “The district collector would then give different dates to examine the papers and submit a status report to us as to what is the position now in the matter.”
The bench, while listing the matter for further hearing on July 27, directed both the Chennai and Kanchipuram district collectors to submit the status report at least a week before the next date of hearing. The bench also directed the collectors to examine the affidavits filed by the advertisers and submit a comprehensive report.
It may be noted that the first bench in its previous order had issued bailable warrants against 42 persons including advertisers who had failed to appear in the court based on the public interest litigation moved by K Muthukrishnan, seeking stringent action to curb unauthorised hoardings.
