Here is a snapshot of past winners and runners-up of the first set of five Assembly constituencies in Coimbatore district

Coimbatore district details
‘Kongu Nadu’, ‘Manchester of South India’, ‘Textile City’, ‘Pump City of Asia’ are some of the nick names for Coimbatore. The region is surrounded by Tiruppur in the east, The Nilgiris in the north, Erode in the north-east, Palakkad district of Kerala in the west and Idukki district of Kerala in the south. Central Institute for Cotton Research (CICR) - Southern Regional station, South Indian Textiles Research Association (SITRA) and the Sardar Vallabhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management are located here. All the 10 constituencies in the district were swept by AIADMK front (AIADMK – 8, CPI and DMDK - 1 each) in 2011. Out of 24,857 NOTA registrations in all 32 districts during the elections, 3061 NOTA were registered in Coimbatore district alone.

Total no of voters: 2,11,574
Votes polled: 1,69,588
Polling percentage: 80.18%
Winner: Thinakaran K (DMDK)
Runner-up: Eswaran E R (KNMK)
Margin: 29532 votes
Formed after the delimitation process in 2009, Sulur assembly constituency is part of Coimbatore parliamentary constituency. The assembly segment has parts of Sulur town panchayat, Palladam Taluk, Kaduvettipalayam, Arasur, Irugur, Pappampatti, Kumarapalayam and others. Winning party: DMDK (2011).
118. Coimbatore North
Total no of voters: 2,21,863
Votes polled: 1,55,282
Polling percentage:Â 70.02% Â
Winner: Malaravan T (AIADMK)
Runner-up: Veeragopal M (DMK)
Margin: 40,098 votes
The erstwhile Coimbatore West constituency was reorganised and renamed as Coimbatore North Assembly Segment. It covers the parts of Coimbatore North Taluk, Veerakeralam (TP), Vadavalli (TP) and Coimbatore Corporation Ward Nos. 57 to 72. Winning party: AIADMK (2011), AIADMK (2006), INC (2001), DMK (1996), INC (1991), DMK (1989 and 1984).
111. Mettupalayam
Total no of voters: 2,11,799
Votes polled: 1,71,836
Polling percentage: 81.18%
Winner: Chinnaraj O K (AIADMK)
Runner-up: Arunkumar B (DMK) Â
Margin: 25,775 votes
Mettuppalayam Taluk, Parts of Coimbatore North Taluk, Bilichi village, Veerapandi (TP) and Gudalur (TP) are the parts of the constituency. OK Chinnaraj and S Palanisamy of AIADMK won here twice consecutively. An AIADMK fort as the party had won 7 times out of 11 elections here. Winning parties: AIADMK (2011), AIADMK (2006), ADMK (2001), DMK (1996), ADK (1991) and INC (1989).
117. Kavundampalayam
Total no of voters: 2,94,632
Votes polled: 2,16,785
Polling percentage: 73.67% 2,94,632
Winner: Arukutty V C (AIADMK)
Runner-up: Subramanian T P (DMK)
Margin: 69,260 votes
During the delimitation process in 2009, Thondamuthur assembly segment was bifurcated and Kavundampalayam AC was created. The segment has been formed with parts of Coimbatore North Taluk, Anaikatti (North and South), Periyanaicken Palayam (TP), Thudiyalur (TP), Kavundampalayam (TP) and others Winning party: AIADMK (2011).
119. Thondamuthur
Total no of voters: 2,13,185
Votes polled: 1,60,085
Polling percentage:Â 75.17%
Winner: Velumani S P (AIADMK)
Runner-up: Kandaswamy M N (INC)
Margin: 53,203 votes
The huge constituency in terms of its area, was bifurcated in 2009 to create a new assembly segment Kavundampalayam. C Aranganayagam of AIADMK was a two-time MLA here in 1984 and 1991. The sitting MLA of the constituency, SP Velumani is the Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, Law, Courts and Prisons. Winning parties: AIADMK (2011), INC (2009 By Polls), MDMK (2006), TMC (2001), DMK (1996), ADK (1991), CPM (1989) and ADK (1984).
