New party enters poll fray, to contest in all 234 constituencies
A new political party ‘Tamil Nadu Mahatma Gandhi Makkal Katchi’ has come into being in the state ahead of the May 16 Assembly election with the objective of providing corruption-free governance.

Party Founder C Thankappan on Saturday said his party would contest in all the 234 constituencies in the state with the promise of providing a transparent, honest and corruption-free governance. Thankappan, who also released his party’s election manifesto, promised five days job a week under the Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee scheme with weekly wages ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 500 per person depending upon the nature of work.
He also promised Rs 10,000 loans to small and retail traders, streamlining distribution of electricity to all sectors and conducting marriage of girls from poor families at a cost of Rs three lakh by the government.
Meanwhile, another outfit the Golden India Party (GIP) on Saturday came out with a list of 27 suggestions aimed at transformation in all spheres and pledged support to political parties which accepted them in the May 16 Assembly election.
GIP founder-president RS Sivaprakasam said his suggestions included a standard price of petrol and diesel all through the year, fixing the price of LPG at Rs 100, reduction in price of power tariff, education for all at Rs 10 per year, medical benefits at Rs 100 per year, provision of all PDS items through ration shops at a meagre price of Rs 10 among the other things.
