EC’s notice to Vaiko over casteist remarks on MK
The Election Commission on Wednesday issued notice, seeking explanation from People’s Welfare Front (PWF) Coordinator and MDMK leader Vaiko for his alleged casteist remarks against DMK president and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

It may be recalled that Vaiko made some intemperate remarks against Karunanidhi, which triggered widespread protests by DMK workers across the State.
However, Vaiko immediately tendered an unconditional apology and admitted it was a blunder committed in his life time. He also said that he had never intended to hurt the feelings of Karunanidhi.
Taking cognisance of this, the EC has issued a notice to Vaiko, seeking his explanation. Meanwhile, PWF partner and VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan took objection to issuance of notice and alleged that the EC’s action was unwarranted.
“Issuing notice even after Vaiko explaining his stand and at a time when the DMK workers had given their stirs after he tendered an unconditional apology, is unwarranted,” he rued. Thirumavalavan alleged that the EC was acting against the PWF and the MDMK.
