Jothimani makes an exit to save embarrassment

Jothimani earlier had projected herself as the candidate for Aravakurichi and launched a propaganda in social media claiming she had good support from the electorate.

While both DMK and Congress were aware that this constituency would be allotted to DMK, where DMK strongman and sitting MLA KC Palanisamy managed to enter the assembly even when DMK took a severe beating in 2011, Jothimani was insistent on contesting from this seat.

Unable to convince the young leader about the limitations of alliance politics, TNCC even hinted that she may be allotted a seat in neighbouring Karur constituency.

In this backdrop, TNCC President EVKS Elangovan issued a warning to Jothimani that she would face disciplinary action.

On Sunday, after a meeting with her supporters, Jothimani resolved to abide by the party diktat and announced that she would not contest in the ensuing assembly election.

“I do not want to cause any embarrassment to party leader Rahul Gandhi by contesting as an independent from Aravakurichi,” Jothimani said.
