Lax Rly gets 90 days from HC to clean toilets
In the wake of a PIL filed by a TN based NGO which brought to the High Court’s notice through videos and photos, the state of neglect of toilets and drinking water facilities in railway stations in TN, the HC has asked the Railways to take corrective action within three months.

Chennai
First bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MM Sundresh while dealing with a plea moved by the NGO, Satta Panchayat Iyakkam (SPI) represented by its general secretary Senthil Arumugam, said, “The photographs produced by the petitioner show practically no progress, though the affidavit filed by the Southern Railway states that the process of awarding the tenders is in progress. We expect the mess would be cleaned up by the next date and the visitors should have properly functioning toilets with drinking water facilities by the next date, for which purpose the report should be filed giving photographs of these toilets and drinking water facilities.”
“We have made it clear that if we do not find any substantive progress, we will have no option but to call the Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, Southern Railway personally to make them accountable for it,” the bench said. The case has been listed for compliance on July 15, 2016.
