A shiny glass elevator that accidentally zooms off into space, spooky aliens and a swanky space hotel – gear up for a thrilling adventure as novelist Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator comes alive on stage in the city.

Maithili Shaan Katari Libby, a barrister who started A to Zee Creativity, says after the successful staging of Dahl’s iconic Char lie and the Chocolate Factory last year, the young actors and the team were keen on revisiting the author’s memorable characters – Charlie Bucket and the slightly crazy Mr. Willy Wonka. “I started A to Zee Creativity after I returned from the UK, when I didn’t find one place where children can indulge in theatre, dance and music. Every year, we put up a stage show. Last year, the adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was so successful that we decided to stage the sequel. The children have worked very hard and have been earnestly practicing over the last few weeks,” she adds.
Libby promises a visual treat for the children and their parents. “We have a lovely glass elevator created by a city-based company. There are huge rocket ships, astronauts, aliens and the works, which will keep even the younger children engaged. For the older children, Dahl’s signature style of humour and the beautiful writing will definitely be a delightful experience,” she says, adding that the proceeds of the production will go to the Sugun Thomas Foundation (STF).
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator will be staged on April 16 and 17 April at 6.30 pm at Chinmaya Heritage Mission, Harrington Road.
