Vellore is the third largest populated district in the state with 39,36,331 people as per 2011 Census, only next to Chennai and Kancheepuram districts. Though the sex ratio of the state is 996 and nation’s 940, Vellore is far better with 1,007 and the literacy rate here is 79.17 per cent. Parts of the district are well-known for its handicrafts, mats, silk products and pottery.Â
The senior leader of DMK, Duraimurugan hails from Vellore and is a six-time MLA of Katpadi. He has won twice from Ranipet too. KC Veeramani, the incumbant MLA of Jolarpet, held the portfolio of health and family welfare for 10 months from February, 2013, before being moved to School education ministry.

Polling percentage: 78.85%Â
Winner: Sampath Kumar Govi (AIADMK)
Runner-up: Abdul Basith H (DMK)
Margin: 18,225 votes
Thrice as independent candidate and once as DMK candidate, M Abdul Lathief won four elections here. Muslim community populated constituency. Winning parties: ADMK (2011), DMK (2006), IND (2001), DMK (1996), INC (1991), DMK (1989) and INC (1984).
48. AmburÂ

Votes polled: 1,37,149
Polling percentage: 77.72%Â
Winner: Aslam Basha A (MAMAK)
Runner-up: Vijay Elanchezian J (INC)Â
Margin: 5,091 votes
Known for its Biriyani and also called Leather City of South India, Ambur was a constituency from 1957 to 1971 and was reorganised back in 2011 election after the delimitation process in 2008. DMK had won the 1971 Assembly election, while MMK won the 2011 election in AIADMK alliance. Winning parties: MMK (2011), DMK (1971), DMK (1967), INC (1962) and INC (1957).
49. JolarpetÂ
Total No of voters: 1,91,688
Votes polled: 1,56,501
Polling percentage: 81.65%Â
Winner: Veeramani KC (AIADMK)
Runner-up: Ponnusamy G (PMK)
Margin: 22,936 votes
A new constituency formed after Pernambut (SC) constituency was deleted in delimitation process. Winning Party: AIADMK (2011).
50. TirupatturÂ
Total No of voters: 1,81,888Â
Votes polled: 1,49,869Â
Polling percentage: 82.43%
Winner: KG Ramesh (AIADMK)
Runner-up: S Rajendran (DMK)
Margin: 21,792 votes
Was a DMK fort with 7 wins in all 14 elections held here. B Sundaram of DMK has won three times here in 1977, 1980 and 1989. Winning parties: AIADMK (2011), PMK (2006), PMK (2001), DMK (1996), ADK (1991), DMK (1989) and INC (1984).
