Backdoor rise in price of curd by Tirumala
The multinational milk producer selling its product under the brand name ‘Tirumala’ has hiked the price of curd indirectly by cutting down the net weight from 200 grams to 175 without giving notice, Tamilnadu Milk Dealers Employees Welfare Association President S A Ponnusamy alleged on Sunday in a press release

Chennai
According to him, the price of curd has been surreptiously raised by Rs 8.57 for a litre of curd. This had severely incresed the burden of both milk dealers and the consumers.
He charged that since several MNC producers/ manufacturers of items like soaps, toothpaste, biscuits and cool drinks were cheating the customers by reducing the size or weight of products and the government did not take note of such malpractices, the MNC milk producer perhaps thought that it could follow the same practice stealthily.
He felt that while the public would be affected because they would not get value for money, the agents would not get remuneration for their effort and labour in marketing the product. On behalf of the association, he asked the Government to end this daylight robbery of consumers. He would urge Tirumala milk producer to stop acting against the interest of milk dealers by indirectly raising the product price. Last year, the private milk producers resorted to a price hike several times.
