TIRUVALLUR DISTRICT
District details: Tiruvallur district has South Asia’s biggest Ambattur Industrial Estate, 1,430 acres, consisting of around 1,800 SSI units. It was opened in 1964. Incumbent MLA of Avadi, S Abdul Rahim was appointed Minister for BC and Minorities Welfare in 2013, during the 10th shuffle of the State cabinet. The MLA of Madhavaram, V Moorthy was made Dairy Development Minister during the fourth reshuffle in 2011 and post the Aavin scam, was sacked in 2014. The district has a literacy rate of 84.03%. In the 2011 Assembly election, there were 134 contestants.
