Rail reservation charts a thing of past now
Chennai
The SMS service was introduced as a trial measure in the Bengaluru-bound Shatabdi Express that left the Chennai Central on Sunday. It would also be done on the Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express from March 22.
A Southern Railway release said, “In pursuance of the Go Green policy, Railway Board takes initiatives to undertake eco-friendly measures in various activities. Accordingly, Railway Board desires to do away with the practice of pasting of reservation charts on the coaches as SMS alerts are being sent to passengers regarding the reservation status of their tickets.”
However, as per the extant practice, the wait list chart will be pasted at the main entrance of the railway stations.
Know platform details too
Southern Railway has also introduced a new SMS facility to inform people about the platform number of Chennai Central Railway Station from where a particular train would depart or arrive.
Stating that this facility would be enabled at all major stations in a phased manner, the railway said platform allocation as well as information regarding expected arrival and scheduled departure of trains is available through the NTES app and from 139. The NTES app is a free app which has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information System for Indian Railways.
