Many engineering colleges across the state say that they witness an increase of 10 per cent to 15 per cent in number of enquiries from students for admission even before the final board examinations commenced.

Chairman of a private engineering college located in the city said that several students had made enquiries in the last two months about various details, including number of faculties and members in each faculty, companies that visit their campus for recruitment drive, the number of students who get immediate placements during the process.

“We have witnessed 10 per cent to 15 per cent increase in the number of enquiries from students and parents compared to last year. We hope that the trend will gain momentum further in the coming days to come as we have a few more months for the results of the board examinations to be announced and the admission process to commence,” an administrator of one of the collegs said.

Prof A K Natesan, honorary chairman of Excel group institutions in Namakkal district and secretary of Association of Management of Coimbatore Anna University Affiliated Colleges, attributed the rise in number of enquiries to positive placement trend leading to a lot of job opportunities for engineering graduates this year.

He also said that the placement for engineering colleges had been good this year and launch of the Centre’s schemes like digital India, Make in India and Skill India would also help technical students get more jobs.

College heads also say that in the past mostly students visited colleges to check the facilities, but, now, students use social media like Facebook and Twitter to get connected with their seniors in the college to know about the facilities available in every college.
