Ajith Kumar was a second year BE (Civil) student studying in a private engineering college in Pennalur. The youth was depressed as he did not perform well in semester examinations. Some friends consoled him. But, Ajith committed suicide in the college hostel on Monday.

Students blamed the management for Ajith Kumar’s suicide and vandalised the college campus. Students alleged that the management had reprimanded Ajith for scoring low marks and asked him to bring his parents. Unable to face the pressure, Ajith Kumar committed suicide by hanging. Sriperumpudur police retrieved Ajith Kumar’s body and sent it for post mortem at the Sriperumbudur Government Hospital.

In another case of campus unrest, students of a private college near ECR condemning the management’s move to hike fee, damaged properties on the campus.

The students, who staged a protest in February, this year, demanding the management to withdraw the move to hike fee, smashed window panes and hurled stones at the college building.

The students while complaining that the institution was asking them to pay the fee for the next academic year in March, alleged that the institution was also levying fines for small issues.
