A OCIU team conducted a raid at Koyambedu Market and arrested three persons who were trying to sell a revolver and live ammunition. However, Murugan who was the buyer managed to give the OCIU team the slip on Sunday.
Based on the information provided by the men who were arrested on Sunday, the police team picked up Murugan from his residence. However, he had told the police that he is no longer working for CD Mani and claimed that he was involved in selling country made weapons which were procured from states like Bihar, West Bengal and Assam.
“He claimed that there was no connection with the revolver and CD Mani’s release from Puzhal Prison on Sunday. Murugan said he is no more involved with CD Mani.
However, we are investigating the matter further,” a senior police official said. The OCIU team, on Sunday, had arrested Mohan Raj, Rajesh and Sabari near Koyambedu Market and seized a revolver and three rounds of live cartridges from them. They had admitted that they were trying to sell the weapon to Murugan.
According to police a hunt is on for three more members of the same gang. “The arrested men confessed to procuring country made guns from local manufacturers in Bihar, Assam and West Bengal and selling them at a higher price in Chennai, especially to criminal gangs.
The CD Mani gang had recently used a country made weapon to try and assassinate Jagan alias Jaganathan, a rival gang leader.
