Tension in Madurai refugee camp as inmate commits suicide
Sri Lankan refugee Ravindran alias Ravi, who was lodged at the special camp at Uchapatti village, committed suicide on Sunday, to draw attention to atrocities committed by officials.

A Sri Lankan Tamil refugee committed suicide by electrocuting himself atop a High Tension (HT) Electrical Transmission Tower inside a Special Camp for Refugee at Uchapatti village here triggering a tense situation on Sunday.Â
The inmate Ravindran alias Ravi, alleging official excess, climbed over the electrical tower and threatened to jump from it. Even as other inmates attempted to pacify him, Ravi touched the HT electrical line after which he was electrocuted and thrown from the tower. He died on the spot.Â
A Revenue Inspector, namely Duraipandi, who was present at the refugee camp was attacked by the irate inmates.Â
He suffered bleeding injuries in the attack. Senior police officials rushed to the camp and rescued the revenue official.Â
As the inmates refused to hand over the body of deceased for post-mortem, police were holding talks to restore normalcy.
