Sources said the instruction was given after allegation of collusion of certain police inspectors with criminals to help them get bail and also to unnecessarily delay the judicial process.

“All the concerned inspectors get a message from government prosecutors regarding the dates on which they need to appear before court. But we have found out that many officials refuse to attend court duty and connive with the accused persons. So we are taking the list of such police officials,” an official attached to the city police told DT Next

Sources said the absence of officials and their inability to brief the prosecutors clearly regarding the case helps the accused get bail and also to drag the proceedings. “This happens mostly during bail petitions and also during trial. When the prosecution is supposed to oppose the bail petition of certain accused, they want backing from the police official and hence they request their presence in the court. But many are not following this up, weakening the prosecution,” the official added.

Sources said explanation would be sought from the officials who were not present during court appearances. “They usually come up with personal excuses for such lapses. But hereafter, a written explanation would be sought from such officials. If connivance is proved some strict action would be initiated against them,” the official said.
