Avinashi-Athikadavu project: Ramadoss hits out at DMK, AIADMK

Speaking to reporters, PMK chief ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramdoss said both the parties promised to implement the project, which would benefit 15 lakh acres of land in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode besides solving drinking water problem, but failed to do so.

The project was conceptualised about 50 years ago when K Kamaraj was the chief minister, Ramadoss, PMK youth wing leader and former Union minister, said.

Though the ruling AIADMK had promised to implement the project in its 2011 election manifesto, it failed to do so, Anbumani said, adding the DMK also did not implement the scheme when it was in power.

He said due to the delay, the estimated cost for the project has also escalated.

He said PMK will implement the project, if it came to power in the coming elections. He also met the people agitating for the project in Tirupur.

Claiming that support to his party was increasing day by day, Ramadoss said people who wanted a change had already decided to defeat both AIADMK and DMK in the coming elections.

On forming alliance, he said there was no need for any alliance to get power. "Only people's confidence was required to win the elections," he said.
