PMK gets court nod for state conference
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) heaved a sigh of relief on Friday as the Madras High Court permitted it to hold its state-level conference at the disputed VGP Thidal in Kilaambakkam on the Vandalur-Urapakkam GST Road in Kanchipuram district

Chennai
A division bench comprising Justice K K Sasidharan and Justice M Venugopal permitted the PMK to hold the conference but directed it to pay a sum of Rs. 25 lakhs as licence fee to the Registrar General, MHC, for using the land in question on Feb. 14.
Directing the DSP to offer PMK a formal order of permission on production of receipt of payment, the court said it was open to the DSP to impose reasonable conditions to ensure law and order and the PMK should restore the land to its original position by 5 pm on Feb. 15.
Holding that the litigation was the creation of VGP Housing Limited and taking into account its conduct in misinterpreting the interim order passed by the division bench, the HC directed it to pay one lakh rupees as costs to the DSP, Vandalur, within three days, failing which the amount would be recovered as arrears of land revenue.
Earlier, a division bench comprising Sathish K Agnihotri and Justice M Venugopal citing a previous court direction that “all the parties are restrained from alienating, transferring and creating any encumbrance on the property in question,” imposed an interim stay.
Meanwhile , PMK’s plea to change the date of the conference from February 14 to 27 has been accepted by the court and they have been directed to pay a rent of Rs.35 lakhs.
