The CMDA officials said that after they identify new spots on the campus they would prepare a proposal and estimate. Around 2,000 MTC buses enter and exit the CMBT bus terminus daily.

Some portions of a couple of bus shelters in the complex were partially damaged when Metro rail works were taken up, causing lot of hardships for the commuters. Commuters complained that they had to wait under the hot sun for buses and CMBT did not have adequate bus shelters.

“The officials should carry out regular interval maintenance works so that commuters are not put to difficulty,” said K Balasubramaniyan, a regular bus commuter. He also rued the fact that MTC buses were parked in a haphazard manner causing extreme hardship to the people. When Dt Next contacted the Superintending Engineer-I, S Shanmughavadivelu, CMDA (Estate Officer of CMBT), he said that renovation works on the damaged shelters are under way.

“As far as construction of new shelters is concerned, we will make a survey of the premises and a proposal. “The renovation works should have been taken up earlier and it has been a year that some portions from some shelters were damaged.

In the meanwhile, pits were dug up for the Metro rail project and the work proceeded at a snail’s pace,” an MTC official said adding that though they had frequently communicated the problems faced by the commuters, it did not elicit any response.
