The People’s Welfare Front (PWF), aiming to bring out a change in the Tamil Nadu political scene, on Sunday launched its campaign from coastal town for the ensuing Assembly elections, with a vow to oust the corrupt AIADMK from power.

Terming both the AIADMK and the DMK as corrupt parties, the leaders vowed to bring about a change in the elections and promised to implement total prohibition in the State. Alleging that corruption was rampant in the State, the leaders also promised to impound the ill-gotten wealth of the AIADMK and DMK members. If they were voted to power.

The leaders of the PWF have come together to take on the ruling AIADMK on various issues concerning the people, including implementation of total prohibition in the State.

Apart from Vaiko, who leads the front, the election meeting was attended by VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, CPI State Secretary R Mutharasan and CPI(M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan.

    Promises to Puducherry

Earliar, addressing a public meeting in Puducherry to explain its common minimum programme on Saturday night, Communist Party of India (CPI) National Secretary D Raja said that the Peoples Welfare Front (PWF) was a historical necessity and an unprecedented alliance which would strive for the bridging the gap between the rich and the poor.

He said that the forthcoming Assembly polls in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu had drawn national attention and added that those opposed to PWF were now on the horns of confusion and fear as this alliance was poised to win the polls with an impressive record.

Speaking on the occasion, MDMK general secretary and convenor of the front Vaiko said Puducherry and Delhi which were union territories now should be upgraded into a full-fledged State. He said that although the AINRC in Puducherry headed by Chief Minister N Rangasamy had an alliance with the BJP in the Lok Sabha election in 2014, nothing had happened to the plea for granting statehood for Puducherry.
