First bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Pushpa Sathyanarayana held that the UGC counsel submits that the search committee had no power to dilute the eligibility or qualification for candidates. But what has been proposed to quell this or are they going to issue any advisory at least in the future, remains unanswered. The bench posting the case to Feb 22, directed the UGC’s joint secretary to be present in the court fully briefed.

ChangeIndia director A Narayanan moved the plea seeking to quash an advertisement by the search committee prescribing eligibility criteria in violation of UGC regulations for appointing vice-chancellors in public universities in Tamil Nadu.
