About 30 inspectors attached the Technical Cell of city police today submitted a petition with the Chief Minister’s cell demanding a promotion.

The inspectors most of who had joined service as early as 1982 have been given only one promotion till date and many of them are due for retirement in another four months.

The inspectors, who had been instrumental in keeping the communication and technical section of the police department, said that the SPs whom they had worked with have already retired from the service after becoming DGPs and they continue to be Sub Inspectors. “We do not have anyone to represent our cases.

Since there were no major recruitments happening in our cell, we have been denied promotion. “Our wing is also struggling under severe staff shortage. Except for the recruitment of about 175 persons to the technical wing of the state police in 2001 and 2010, there has not been any major recruitment drive,” a sub inspector, one among the complainant, told DTNext .

He said the sub inspectors joined the force in 2001 have already been made inspectors. “Those who had joined the TSP battalion along with us in 80s have already reached the rank of Commandants, which is equivalent to the rank of SP.

But we continue to be just inspectors,” the official added. He said all the 30 inspectors who have taken up the petition have 34 years of service in the force. “We hope the government will rectify this anomaly sooner so that we get a promotion before we retire from the service,” the official added.
