Cabinet discusses interim Budget
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa presided over a Cabinet meeting on Sunday in the run-up to the interim Budget.

A meeting of Tamil Nadu Cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister was held at the State Secretariat here on Sunday. This was the first meeting of the State Cabinet in the New year. During the meeting, the Chief Minister believed to have discussed about the financial allocations to be made for various departments in the interim Budget to be tabled soon.Â
Considering that the elections were due in May this year, the Cabinet is believed to have discussed the dates to be decided for convening the budget session during which Finance Minister O Panneerselvam would present the interim budget. The meeting was also believed to have given the final touches to the budget, which was expected to contain various welfare measures for the people. The meeting was attended by Ministers, Chief Secretary, Advisor to the State government and Senior officials of various departments.Â
According to sources, issues discussed at the meeting included a separate law to enable the conduct of jallikattu, as well as the scrutiny of accreditation of colleges across Tamil Nadu to prevent incidents like that which occurred at the SVS College in Villupuram.
