Set in the residential Kasturbai Nagar, the vegetarian restaurant stands right next to the non-vegetarian haven, Buhari hotel.

The restaurant serves heirloom cuisine of 36 hamlets of Reddiars in Tirunelveli, who migrated from Andhra Pradesh in the 14th Century, in a setting that is simple but contemporary. People can taste secret recipes that have been passed down over generations. These original, south Indian, vegetarian preparations have their roots in the flavour belt between Tirunelveli and Thrissur.

We started the meal with Murungaikai Saaru, a flavourful and light soup made with drumsticks, coconut milk and vegetables and went on to try their delicious and crispy Vazhapoo cutlets. A special mention to their Chintamani rava idlis. The soft, crumbly steamed idlis went well with the traditional sambar and tempered chutneys. After savouring the idli we moved on to try out the Krishnavillasam masala dosai. The crispy dosa, prepared in ghee, had a lovely filling of potato masala. In their main course try out their kadalai curry, a spicy roasted coconut curry that goes well with almost anything. Also do not miss the urundai morkozhambu, a popular, spiced buttermilk curry, where the fried lentil balls delicately float atop the creamy liquid. You can try these out with steamed idiyappams, appams, puttu or a plain dosa or chapathi. For the health conscious, there is the multi-grain vasanai dosai.

Finish your meal with the Chintamani special wheat halwa soaked in ghee or some chilled elaneer payasam.
