Dreaded Ennore don arrested in secret ops

In a secret operation, the anti Goonda Cell of Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Tuesday arrested Ennore Dhanasekaran, who is said to be one of the most notorious gangsters in Chennai. The CCB had kept his arrest under wraps for reasons unknown. Now, Dhanasekaran’s supporters are planning to move the Madras High Court with a habeas corpus petition as they believe his life is in danger. 

Officials confirmed that the gangster was picked up from Chennai Central on Tuesday and sent to Puzhal prison. Dhanasekaran, who claims to be a functionary in a fringe political party, had visited the office of the city Commissioner of Police last week. He demanded to meet the official and other higher officers in his capacity as the ‘politico’. 

A senior police official told DT Next, “A criminal with more than 45 cases against him including 10 murder cases wanted to have an audience with the Commissioner. He tried throwing his weight around by highlighting his position in a political party that not many knew of. He was asked to leave the premises.” 

However, sources added police decided to detain him again as he was planning a major operation. It was feared that he would supply goons to political parties during elections to create law and order issues. “He was planning a murder following threat from rival gangs. As the elections are approaching, we had to arrest him,” the official said. 

Sources say that when he was released from Puzhal two months ago, about 25 private cars brought in by his close associates lay in wait outside Puzhal, that followed him to Ennore. 

Dhanasekaran (45), a college drop-out started working as a coolie at Ennore Port. His ruthlessness with rivals, earned him infamy as a rowdy. “He had begun dictating terms at Ennore Port and then took over the control of entire loading and unloading works at Ennore. No company was allowed to function without paying a bribe to Dhanasekaran and he made crores in no time.
