Help me get back my wife: Trader
A petty shop owner kept police on tenterhooks after he climbed atop a BSNL tower here in the city on Wednesday morning and refused to get down, demanding that he be reunited with his wife, who was allegedly taken away by her parents some days ago, in collusion with the police officials in the district.

The man identified as Arunkumar, running an old plastic shop in Sulur, claimed he had fallen in love with a girl of another caste in Palladam in the district and married her six months ago. Her parents then lodged a complaint with police against them, who reportedly forcibly took away his wife and handed her over to them, he said.Â
Though he submitted a petition to the District Collector and Superintendent of Police to get back his wife, there was no response from both of them and so resorted to this protest in a bid to press his demand, police said.Â
Carrying food packets along with him, Arunkumar climbed the 160-foot tower around 9 am and refused to get down despite requests from police and revenue department officials.Â
Negotiations by officials with the trader continued for hours. But, the plastic shopw owner insisted on his demand to be reunited with his wife, police said.Â
