CM Congratulates Shanta for getting Padma Vibhushan award
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today congratulated Dr V Shanta, Chairperson of Adyar Cancer Institute here, which is one of the most prominent Cancer hospitals in the country, for getting the 'Padma Vibhushan' Award, announced by the Union Government on Monday.

In a letter to Dr Shanta, the Chief Minister said "I congratulate you, both personally and on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu, on being honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award this year."
"It is a matter of great happiness that the State Government's recommendation to confer the Padma Vibhushan on you has been accepted by the Government of India. This richly deserved award appropriately recognizes the decades of dedicated and selfless service that you have rendered to the cause of preventing and curing cancer."

Ms Jayalalithaa also said "Many lakhs of patients and their families have benefited from your service. Above all, you have been an institution builder, making the Cancer Institute in Chennai a nationally recognized Institution. You have done the State proud and I once again congratulate you on being conferred this
honour".
Winner of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for public service in 2005, Dr Shanta had already been awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2006 and now the veteran doctor has been conferred with the Padma Vibhushan.
