File counter in girls’ suicide case: High Court

Amidst allegations that the three college girls from Villupuram who were found dead in a well were murdered, the Madras High Court has sought the Government to file its reply on a plea seeking CB-CID probe into the incident, as well as holding another post-mortem on one of the victim Monisa. 

The three girl students of SVS Naturopathy and Yoga Science Medical College at Kallakurichi near Villupuram had allegedly committed suicide on January 23 accusing the administration of charging excess fees and torture. They had reportedly blamed the college correspondent Vasuki for their death. 

Justice MM Sundaresan, who heard the plea, directed the Government to preserve the body of Monisa until the next hearing on Wednesday, when the case would be posted before the respective portfolio judge. 

Monisa’s father MK Tamilarasan contended that on January 22 his daughter and two other friends Priyanga and Saranya were asked to pay Rs 2 Lakh. But when these girls inquired about it, the Principal Vasuki, Director Subramanian and his son, along with their accomplices forcibly inflicted injuries and murdered them. Thereafter, they were dumped the bodies into a nearby well with their hands being tied. 

He further submitted that his plea to the Government on January 24 to conduct the post-mortem at a Government Hospital in Chennai was ignored. But contrary to the plea, the body had been left outside the post-mortem building, thereby forcing him to take the body for cremation, he alleged. 

Addition Advocate General PH Aravind Pandian, who opposed a CB-CID probe in this regard, said the post-mortem was held under the supervision of an Assistant Professor from Trichy and that the process was taped. He said the parents of the other two girls have already taken the body for cremation and that it was Monisa’s parents who were insisting on a post mortem again and refused to take her body. He claimed a special police team to probe the incident had commenced and the prime accused in the case have either been arrested or have surrendered. 

However, the judge on having a look at the suicide note, sought the Government to file a counter and preserve the body. Meanwhile, the post-mortem report released in Villupuram claims that the girls died of drowning and there existed no visible external injury on their bodies.
