SP Udayakumar, a teacher and writer from Tamil Nadu, who is also an anti-nuclear activist has now launched a new political party – called Pachai Thamizhagam (Green Tamil Nadu). The activist convened a launch meet on Monday at the Chennai Press Club to announce the same. Speaking to the attendees, Udayakumar said “This move is aimed at evolving political solutions to various environmental issues. It is not being started for power or for monetary gains.”

He affirmed that the party would focus on the youth, women and Dalits in the ensuing Assembly Elections and distance itself from parties that act against the interest of the people.

“We will work for fulfilling the demands of minorities and Dalits and will safeguard the livelihood of common people besides working towards the recovery of natural resources. The party will strive to create leaders for generations to come” Udayakumar asserted.

The functionaries of the new party and its State secretaries were present during the launch.
