126 e-seva centres opened in Chennai
People now can get a host of services such as payment of property tax and availing of birth or death certificates closer to their respective localities, as Chief Minister Jayalalithaa launched 126 e-seva centres across the city

In an attempt to broaden the ambit of e-seva, the services were set up at a cost of Rs 1.95 crore. The Chief Minister had announced in the 2014-15 budget that her government would launch e-Seva centres offering a host of services.Â
A pilot launch was made in the city in 14 e-seva centres on February 24, 2014. Through such e-Seva centres, 1.15 crore people have benefitted so far, an official release said. As part of formally implementing the scheme, Jayalailthaa formally launched 126 e-Seva centres across Chennai through video conferencing facility from the Secretariat.Â
The centres operating under the state owned TN Arasu Cable Television Ltd, are located in divisional office premises of Chennai Corporation.Â
Various government services like payment of property tax, birth or death certificates can be availed of from these centres, the release said. People can also remit water, power and sewerage bills at these centres, besides getting details of income certificate and caste certificates. Â
IT Minister ‘Mukkur’ N Subramanian, Chief Secretary K Gnanadesikan, Advisor to Government Sheila Balakrishnan, Arasu Cable TV chairman Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan and MD (Incharge) J Kumaragurubaran and IT Principal Secretary Ramachandran were among those present on the occasion.
