A serious issue faced by bus commuters was that most of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s bus stands lack proper infrastructure and are supposedly not passengers-friendly.

After receiving a flurry of complaints from passengers, the government body is now set to carry out renovation works after inspecting all the bus stands. Sources say, MTC has 25 bus terminals, where buses are being housed and from where they are dispatched for services.

A considerable number of bus depots lack basic infrastructure that has become an inconvenience to the passengers. Around 1,500 MTC buses are being operated on daily basis and unlike previous years, the number of passengers waiting in bus depots is on the rise. Passengers have alleged that bus stands located in places like Ayyappanthangal, Vadapalani and Kundrathur have no proper space for commuters to even stand. MTC officials claimed they are in the process of inspecting all depots under their jurisdiction.

A top official from the Technical Wing of MTC, on condition of anonymity, told DT Next, “After studying all the terminals, we will carry out renovation works wherever necessary. As far as aged and differently-abled bus commuters are concerned, we would take appropriate measures for the allocation of separate waiting spaces for them in all terminals,” he said.
