Thousands of motorists and those commuting by the MTC, heading to various destinations, had a tough time in the city as the arterial Anna Salai and Egmore areas due to traffic jams created by two events – the DMK demonstration near Chepauk, the constituency of the party leader M Karunanidhi, and the Builders Association of India election at a private hotel on Pantheon Road.

Though the Chennai traffic police did manage to divert the traffic through alternative routes, what aggravated the situation was the commuters trying to reach their offices on time indulged in a loud honking of horns and verbal rage.

In many places there was utter chaos as motorists attempted to sneak through every available gap.

A few wondered why the DMK which usually blames others for such grid locks planned to hold the demonstration during the peak hour knowing full well that it would affect office goers and students severely.

The Builders Association of India (Southern centre) contributed to a logjam because of its election. As it was held in a private hotel on Pantheon road, traffic got jammed on the stretch that is narrow and the central median stones yet to be placed in their position caused a lot of problems for unwary drivers of two wheelers and cars.

Police sources claimed that the traffic congestion in both the  venues between 10 am and noon was well managed with a posse of traffic policemen, who resorted to timely traffic diversions.
