Six arrested for neighbour’s murder

The Ayanavaram Police, after arresting six persons for murdering a 45-year-old said the accused had been nurturing a grudge against the deceased, Arivazhagan, and decided to eliminate him.

The accused had hacked Arivazhagan to death at his residence in Pachaikkal Verrasamy Housing Colony at Ayanavaram on Saturday night. They also hacked Arivazhagan’s friend Devaraj (45), an auto driver, causing him serious injuries.

A special police team was deputed to nab the murderers and the team on Sunday arrested all the six persons who had carried out the murder. Police have arrested Logu alias Yogaraj (26), Viji (27), Haris Kumar (23), Nandagopal (23) and Mahesh Kumar (25), all living in the same colony at Ayanavaram.

Police said Logu and Arivazhagan had been having minor scuffles for over a year. Logu has been a history-sheeter who was detained twice under the Goondas Act. Logu, who wanted to settle scores with Arivazhagan took the help of his gang members to eliminate him.

They then decided to attack Arivazhagan at his house on Saturday. They hacked Arivazhagan several times using long knives, killing him on the spot. While escaping from the scene, they saw Arivazhagan’s friend Devarajan coming in an auto. They stopped the vehicle and attacked Devarajan as well. Devarajan has been admitted to KMC Hospital with serious injuries. 

The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
