TMC leader GK Vasan, insisting that the State meet the demands of the Postal employees noted that there are non permanent employees in city post offices too.

Across India there are 1,52,000 post offices and 2,92,000 persons are working in rural post offices. In TN around 20,000 persons are working in rural post offices. Around 90% of them are working on non permanent basis. They have been working on non permanent basis for years together.

They demand several benefits applicable to other permanent employees, besides requesting them to get permanent position. Those demands include cash allowance, pension and more. They have not included in the 7th Pay Commission, which has increased their worries.

Government has constituted a one man commission under a retired postal official to look into those affairs and it has created an anxiety among the rural postal workers, said Vasan. It is uncertain that the commission would recommend their demands and the government would accept them decisively.

Therefore the government should come forward to accept all of their demands as soon as possible, he insisted.
