A 45-year-old woman Sub Inspector allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance in Annur here, police said today. Hemalatha yesterday took part in an operation against encroachment and shortly afterwards, is allegedly said to have consumed poison and fainted, police said. Police sources said Sub Inspector Hemalatha has a son studying in Plus Two, staying in a hostel in the city. Â She was married to Ashok Kumar, an engineer working abroad for some years.Â
Meanwhile, Hemalatha had allegedly been involved with another person, Balachandran, for the last three years. Â The duo was known to have altercations frequently. A few days ago, Balachandran had come to the police station to meet her where the two got into an argument. Hemalatha is said to gone to a nearby building and consumed poison. Â She returned to the station and vomited. When the police inquired, she told them she had consumed poison. Â
They rushed her to a private hospital, where she died, the sources added. It may be recalled that in Sep 2015, a 27-year old woman Deputy Superintendent of Police committed suicide in her office-cum-residence complex in Tiruchengode town in the district.Â
Vishnupriya, who was posted as the Tiruchengode DSP was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room. She left a suicide note.
