Amid calls for alliance, DMDK to decide future plans on Jan 9
Amid invitations from several parties for an alliance, the Vijayakanth-led DMDK today said it would hold a meeting of its key decision-making bodies on January 9 to discuss future plans.
Chennai
The meeting of DMDK's Executive and General Council will be held at Perambalur district, a party release said.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes months ahead of state Assembly elections and at a time when the actor-politician is wooed by all opposition parties in Tamil Nadu.
DMK, Congress, BJP and the Vaiko-led four party People's Welfare Front have issued open invitation to Vijayakanth for an alliance even as he has not responded to the feelers and is said to be keeping his cards close to his chest.
The issue could well come up at the party's brainstorming session next month.
DMDK, launched in 2005, made its Assembly debut the next year when Vijayakanth was elected from Vriddhachalam. In the 2011 elections, he had joined hands with AIADMK to face the polls but later parted ways following a face-off with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the Assembly.
