Chennai
Police said that Deepa (name changed), a cowherd, was kidnapped by a trio on December 11 to a secluded spot near a lake in Thandalam and sexually assaulted. Later, Deepa escaped from the trio and reached home. Then, she narrated the incident to her husband. The victim’s husband lodged a complaint in connection with the sexual assault by the trio with the Melmaruvathur police, who directed it to the All women police.Â
During inquiries, it was found out that the juvenile was a worker of a hotel near Thandalam and the other two were identified as Kamal and Nagaraj, both daily wagers. A case under various sections including 342, 376 and 307 was registered against the trio. All the three were then produced before a court which remanded them to custody. While the juvenile was sent to the juvenile school at Kellys in Chennai, the other two were lodged in Puzhal prison.Â
