Vision loss was no bar for him
S. Prasanna Kumar, a physical education specialist and a resident of Tambaram, lost vision in his left eye after a major accident in 2014. But his determination to play a role in Chennai flood relief operations helped him rescue 80 people in Krishna Nagar, apart from carrying out relief operations across the city
Chennai
When the floods created havoc and panic across the city, I wanted to be a part of rescue operations, just like other volunteers. Vision loss did not deter me from setting out all alone. I rescued close to 80 people in Krishna Nagar locality and helped them reach a safer place. Later, I joined a few friends to provide relief for people in Jafferkhanpet, Anakaputhur, Pozhichalur, Baraniputhur, Palavakkam, Perumbakkam and Mudichur. I worked as a physical education specialist in Chennai and Mumbai. But after a major accident in June last year, I was left with vision only in my right eye. Doctors had given up hope and told my parents that I might not survive the accident. I may have been considered unfit for jobs, but I think God has given me the power to rise to the occasion. He was my vision throughout the relief operations. I am also proud of the brave and kind-hearted people, who beat the odds to carry out relief operations across the city. Vision loss was no bar for him.
